Redwood Comics
Redwood Comics is a Veteran- & AAPI-owned comic book publisher dedicated to telling grounded stories in all genres.
Writer and artist Edward Coffey founded Redwood Comics shortly after he launched his first title, "Rise," after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Seed&Spark. "Rise" was originally a screenplay pitched to major studios, including Warner Bros., Amazon Studios, and Disney, among other production studios. In addition to "Rise," Coffey successfully pitched several scripts to studios, doctored screenplays, and produced narrative and reality television pilots.
He decided to branch out on his own in hopes of funding a short film called "False Flag" about a single father mourning the loss of his son in the aftermath of a mass shooting when conspiracy theorists converge on his small town demanding proof the tragedy occurred. As a feature screenplay, it received an 8/10 on the Black List and several honors at contests and festivals. The encouraging feedback from the Black List and his knowledge of directing commercials convinced him to pursue the short film version. However, when the pandemic hit in 2020, Coffey shelved "False Flag" and began illustrating panels from the one-hour drama version of "Rise."
After a few years of pitching "Rise" to publishers, he successfully crowdfunded the project in the spring of 2022 and launched Redwood Comics shortly after.

About the Founder, Edward Coffey
Writer and artist Edward Coffey grew up in San Pablo & Richmond, Calif., in the San Francisco Bay Area, to an immigrant single mother from the Philippines. At 17, Coffey graduated high school and attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, majoring in motion pictures and television with an emphasis on visual effects. Not wanting to limit his potential, he took all the directing and cinematography classes he could handle while maintaining a visual effects demo reel.
After film school, Coffey would join the U.S. Army, where he learned public affairs and broadcast journalism. He would serve with the famed 1st Infantry Division, eventually deploying to Baghdad, Iraq. Coffey served at the highest headquarters for U.S. forces in Iraq as the broadcast studio manager at Al Faw Palace, assisting and managing broadcast operations for VIPs for Pres. Barack Obama, Vice Pres. Joe Biden, numerous U.S. state governors, politicians, media personalities, and celebrities, including George Stephanopolous, Martha Raddatz, and Stephen Colbert. His footage has been seen globally as part of b-roll packages.
After Iraq, Coffey moved on to the Defense Media Activity at Fort Meade, Md., serving as traffic manager and producer for commercials aired on the American Forces Network, the Pentagon Channel, and DoD News. He contributed to the success of numerous Emmy- and Telly-winning commercials for the Department of Defense.
After the Army, Coffey would serve as the primary content creator for the U.S. Navy's Naval History and Heritage Command at the Washington Navy Yard. He produced the U.S. Navy award-winning "The Galloping Ghost of the Java Coast," a documentary about the sinking of the USS Houston off the coast of Indonesia.
Coffey would attain his master's in writing for film, television & digital media from the Academy of Art University. He's a member of the Independent Writers Caucus (formerly the WGAW Independent Writers Caucus).
